Chacalón y la Nueva Crema

Chacalón y la Nueva Crema were a pivotal force in the Peruvian cumbia scene, particularly within a style known as Chicha, which blends Andean folk rhythms with the more contemporary frameworks of cumbia and rock. The band was formed and led by the legendary Lorenzo Palacios Quispe, known by his stage name "Chacalón," who was adored for his distinctive, emotive voice and his ability to encapsulate the struggles and joys of the working-class life in Peru.

Emerging in the 1970s, Chacalón became the voice of the marginalized sectors of Lima and other urban areas, singing about social issues, love, and hope in his lyrics. His band, La Nueva Crema, was composed of talented musicians who together created a sound that resonated with many Peruvians, especially within the migrant communities that had moved to the city from the Andes in search of a better life. Despite his passing in 1994, Chacalón’s legacy lives on, and his music continues to be celebrated, with reissues and live albums such as "Colección De Oro ¡En Vivo!, Vol.1" allowing new generations to experience the profound impact of his work. "Versos a Mamá" and other hits like "No Es Fácil Perdonar" and "¡Soy Feliz! Nos Dice” are testament to their lasting influence on the genre and their connection with fans across Peru and beyond.
