Poison Idea

Poison Idea was a ferocious hardcore punk band that came out of Portland, Oregon in 1980. Known for their blistering speed, raw aggression, and take-no-prisoners attitude, they quickly became one of the most influential bands in the American hardcore scene. Founded by vocalist Jerry A (Jerry Lang) and guitarist Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts, Poison Idea blended punk fury with metallic force, helping lay the groundwork for what would become hardcore punk’s heavier offshoots.

Their 1990 album Feel the Darkness is widely regarded as a genre-defining release, showcasing their ability to mix anger, melody, and nihilism with surprising sophistication. Over the years, despite multiple breakups, reunions, and lineup changes, Poison Idea continued to unleash powerful records and play chaotic, no-holds-barred live shows until they called it quits for good in 2017. Their legacy lives on in countless punk and metal bands who cite them as a major influence.
