Gerry Hemingway

Gerry Hemingway is a groundbreaking percussionist and composer who's been pushing the boundaries of creative music since the late 1970s. Known for his dynamic drumming and inventive compositions, he's become a linchpin of avant-garde jazz and improvisational music. Hemingway gained recognition through his long-standing collaborations, including a pivotal 14-year stint in Anthony Braxton's celebrated quartet (reflected in his recent Braxton tribute album with Marilyn Crispell and Mark Dresser). His work effortlessly bridges composed structures and free improvisation, showcased in recent releases like the atmospheric "Luminous" and rhythmically adventurous "Table of Changes". A restless collaborator, Hemingway continues to explore new terrain through projects like his trio with Georg Graewe and Ernst Reijseger, while maintaining his distinct voice as a bandleader and solo artist.
