Marsyas

Marsyas is a celebrated Czech folk rock band known for their poetic lyrics and unique fusion of rock, folk, and jazz elements. Having formed in the early 1970s, the band took its name from Marsyas, the figure of ancient Greek mythology, known for his challenge to Apollo and his subsequent tragic fate. Throughout the years, the core duo of Petr Kalandra (guitar, harmonica, vocals), who was integral to the band until his death in 1995, and Oskar Petr (vocals, flute, guitar), established Marsyas as a significant presence in the Czech music scene with their evocative storytelling and musical skill.

Staying relevant over decades, Marsyas has released a substantial body of work, with albums such as "V Mýdlových Bublinách (Live)" showcasing their live performance prowess, while their eponymous album "Marsyas" captures the essence of their studio creativity. With "1978-2004," fans enjoyed a reflective journey through the band's enduring career. Their later works, "V Přítmí" and "Jen Tak," continued to demonstrate the band's ability to adapt and evolve with time, all the while staying true to their folk rock roots. Through the fusion of haunting melodies and introspective lyrics, Marsyas has cemented their legacy in the Central European music panorama.
