Kroke is a Polish trio known for blending traditional klezmer music with elements of jazz, classical, and world music. Formed in 1992 in Kraków—the band's name means "Kraków" in Yiddish—Kroke originally focused on preserving and interpreting traditional Eastern European Jewish melodies. Over time, they expanded their sound, incorporating improvisation and diverse musical influences that give their work a distinct, genre-crossing character.
The group, consisting of Tomasz Kukurba (viola, vocals), Jerzy Bawoł (accordion), and Tomasz Lato (double bass), has built an international reputation, performing at major world music festivals and collaborating with artists such as Peter Gabriel and Nigel Kennedy. Kroke’s albums, including works like Feelharmony, Avra, and Rejwach, showcase their evolving sound—a rich, cinematic blend that is both deeply rooted in tradition and boldly exploratory.
