The Chariot

The Chariot was an American hardcore band that carved out a unique niche in the heavy music scene with their chaotic performances and fiercely experimental sound. Formed in Douglasville, Georgia in 2003 by frontman Josh Scogin, following his departure from Norma Jean, The Chariot quickly became known for their raw, frenetic energy and their embrace of unpredictability both on stage and in the studio. With a lineup that often changed between records, the band maintained its core ethos of relentless innovation across their discography, drawing on a rich tapestry of hardcore, metal, and noise influences.

The band's discography is a testament to their commitment to pushing the boundaries of the genre. Beginning with their debut album, “Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead, And Nothing Is Bleeding,” The Chariot set a precedent for unorthodox recording techniques, choosing to record the album live in one take, without overdubs or flawless polish. This visceral approach carried through subsequent releases, including the poetic frenzy of "The Fiancée" and the dissonant, collage-like soundscapes of "Wars And Rumors Of Wars." The Chariot's penultimate album, "Long Live," served as a high-water mark of their career, encapsulating their raw spirit and dedication to their craft. "One Wing," their final album, released in 2012, is often heralded as their most ambitious work, a fitting swansong before their disbandment in 2013. Even after their split, The Chariot's influence persists in the hardcore scene, with their fearless approach inspiring countless acts that followed.
