Vorvaň

Vorvaň is a Russian metal band formed in Moscow in 2009 by guitarist Eugene Cherevkov. The band's early lineup solidified in 2011 with the addition of vocalist/guitarist Eli Mavrychev, bassist Igor "Butz," and drummer Aleksandr Fursov, later replaced by Zakk Hemma. Vorvaň's music is heavily influenced by Western metal and hardcore bands like Converge and Mastodon, reflecting their progressive and fast-paced style. Their discography includes notable albums such as *Once Love Was Lost*, *In Gloom*, and *Sailing the Vastness of Oceans*. More recently, they have released *Awakened*, *Paths We Have Strayed From*, and *Shaped by the Void*, showcasing their continued evolution in the metal scene.

The band's name, "Vorvaň," is derived from an old Slavic word for whale oil, inspired by Herman Melville's *Moby-Dick*. Despite being part of Russia's underground metal scene, Vorvaň has gained recognition for their unique sound and collaborations with international artists. They have toured extensively within Russia and aim to expand their reach globally. Vorvaň's music is characterized by its intense energy and experimental approach, making them a standout in the Russian metal landscape.
