Neva Dinova

Neva Dinova is an indie rock band hailing from Omaha, Nebraska, named after the grandmother of the band's frontman, Jake Bellows. The group initially formed in the mid-1990s and consisted of a fluid lineup around Bellows, with a sound characterized by its emotional depth, rooted in alt-country and infused with a midwestern indie rock sensibility. Over time, the band firmed up its roster, including contributors like Heath Koontz (bass), Tim Haes (guitar), and Bo Anderson (drums). They have been associated with the burgeoning Omaha music scene that also gave rise to acts like Bright Eyes and Cursive.

Neva Dinova's discography reflects their evolution and dedication to crafting heartfelt songs that blend melancholy lyrics with evocative melodies. Their self-titled album, "Neva Dinova," released in 2002, began their foray into the music landscape with earnest storytelling and distinctive arrangements. This was followed by the emotionally rich "The Hate Yourself Change" in 2005, and "You May Already Be Dreaming," a more expansive and ambitious effort that dropped in 2008. In 2010, they re-released "One Jug Of Wine, Two Vessels," a collaborative EP with Bright Eyes, that underscores both acts' knack for introspective songwriting. Side releases like "Demos and C-Sides" and remixes such as "Something's Out There (Todd Fink Remix)" showcase the band's versatility and willingness to experiment with their sound. Despite being less active in recent years, Neva Dinova has left a lasting imprint on the indie rock landscape, offering a poignant and reflective take on the human experience through their music.
