Tavares

Tavares, originally known as The Tavares Brothers, is a renowned American R&B, funk and soul music group that found their greatest success in the 1970s. Composed of five brothers from New Bedford, Massachusetts: Ralph, Pooch, Chubby, Butch, and Tiny Tavares, the group began performing in 1959 as Chubby and the Turnpikes before deciding on the name Tavares in the early 1970s. With their smooth harmonies and catchy tunes, they achieved several hits that climbed the charts, showcasing their versatility and staying power in the music industry.

Their soaring popularity was fueled by classics such as "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel," "More Than A Woman," featured on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, and the infectious "It Only Takes a Minute," which became dance floor staples. The brothers managed to maintain their relevance over the years, adapting to changing musical landscapes without losing the essence of their groove-rich sound. Not just recording artists, Tavares also delivered dynamic live performances, captured in releases like "Absolutely the Best Live" and "Tavares (Live)." As their discography expanded over the decades, with collections such as "Ultimate Tavares" and "Let’s Hear It for Tavares," the group solidified their legacy as one of the enduring acts of the soul and disco era, influencing generations of musicians and listeners alike.
