Richard Barone

Richard Barone is a singer-songwriter, author, and producer best known as the frontman of the influential 1980s alternative pop band The Bongos. After the group disbanded, he launched a successful solo career characterized by richly crafted songs that blend pop, folk, and rock influences. A fixture of the New York music scene, Barone is not only known for his engaging performances and melodic songwriting but also for his deep appreciation of music history, especially the Greenwich Village folk era.

In addition to his own recordings—like the tribute album Sorrows & Promises: Greenwich Village in the 1960s—Barone has collaborated with artists such as Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and John Sebastian. Beyond performing, he has served as a music curator, educator, and advocate, helping to preserve and promote the cultural legacy of folk and pop music traditions in New York City and beyond.
