Les Ambassadeurs

Les Ambassadeurs were a legendary West African band hailing from Mali, kicking off in the early 1970s as Les Ambassadeurs du Motel de Bamako. They blended Mandingo rhythms with Afro-Cuban influences, funk, and jazz, creating a vibrant sound that lit up the Bamako nightlife scene. Fronted initially by the iconic vocalist Salif Keita, alongside guitarist Kanté Manfila and other talents, they became a staple at the Motel de Bamako, churning out hits like "Mana Mani" and drawing crowds with their energetic performances.

Political unrest in Mali forced the band to relocate to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in the mid-1970s, where they evolved into Les Ambassadeurs Internationaux and continued to thrive, releasing albums and influencing the African music landscape. Though they disbanded in the early 1980s, their legacy lives on through compilations like "Les Nuits de Bamako" that capture their groovy 70s era, inspiring generations of musicians with their fusion of traditional and modern vibes.
