Rico Gubler is a Swiss saxophonist, composer, and music educator born on January 12, 1972, in Richterswil. He studied saxophone with notable teachers including Iwan Roth at the Basel Academy of Music, Marcus Weiss at the Zurich Conservatory, and Jean-Michel Goury in Paris, winning the Premier Prix à l’unanimité at the CNR de Boulogne-Billancourt. His music career spans performance, improvisation, and composition, with a strong focus on contemporary and experimental music. Gubler has performed as a soloist at prominent festivals like the Donaueschinger Musiktage, Salzburger Festspiele, and Wien Modern, and has been involved with ensembles such as the Collegium Novum Zürich and the Cattrall ensemble.
In addition to his creative work, Gubler is recognized for his contributions to music education, having taught saxophone and chamber music at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and the Musikhochschule Lübeck. He is also head of the Music Department at Bern University of the Arts and holds qualifications in law from the University of Zurich.
