Al Muirhead

Al Muirhead is a veteran Canadian jazz trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist known for his warm tone, lyrical phrasing, and deep roots in the swing and bebop traditions. Born in 1938, this Saskatchewan-born artist became one of Canada's most respected session musicians, playing with legends like Tommy Banks, P.J. Perry, and Guido Basso over his decades-long career. Remarkably, he released his debut album *It's About Time* in 2015 at age 77, launching a late-career burst of creativity that includes lively recordings like *Oop!* (2017) and the intimate *Live From Frankie's & The Yardbird* (2019). His *Northern Adventures - The Canada Sessions, Vol. 1* (2020) showcases his knack for collaborative storytelling through jazz. A recipient of the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award (2017), Muirhead balances classic jazz sensibilities with a playful, forward-looking energy, often mentoring younger musicians while keeping dance floors swinging.
