Kris Davis is a Canadian-born pianist and composer known for her adventurous spirit and innovative approach to jazz and improvised music. A vital force in contemporary jazz, Davis has earned widespread acclaim for her ability to meld intricate compositions with spontaneous improvisation. Her work often explores the boundaries between structure and freedom, and she’s collaborated with forward-thinking artists like Terri Lyne Carrington, Esperanza Spalding, and Craig Taborn.
In 2019, Davis released the groundbreaking album Diatom Ribbons, which showcased her genre-blurring style and earned high praise for its inventive fusion of electronics, jazz, and experimental sounds. She followed it with live recordings at the Village Vanguard that further cemented her status as one of jazz's most compelling voices. Davis is also an educator and the founder of Pyroclastic Records, a label supporting boundary-pushing musicians. Her music is celebrated for its fearless creativity and deep sense of exploration.
