Red Zebra

**Red Zebra** was a Belgian post-punk band that emerged in the early 1980s, becoming a cult favorite in the European new wave scene. Hailing from Aalst, the trio—Paul Jacobs (vocals/bass), Geert Scheunders (guitar), and Marc De Merlier (drums)—crafted minimalist, punchy tracks with a DIY edge. Their 1980 single “I Can’t Live in a Living Room” became an underground anthem, blending wiry guitars and deadpan vocals that echoed the era’s post-punk energy. Though their original run was short-lived (they disbanded in 1985), their influence lingered, leading to reissues like *The Art of Conservation: 1980–2002*, which cemented their legacy.

The band reunited sporadically in the 2000s, releasing live albums like *Live In Front of a Nation* and fresh material such as *Kookaburra* and *Sweet Lullaby*, proving their sound still bites decades later. Tracks like *Maquis* and *Don’t Put Your Head In a Bucket* showcase their knack for quirky titles and unfiltered, rhythmic grit. Red Zebra remains a beloved footnote in Belgium’s alternative music history—a reminder that sometimes the weirdest ideas stick around the longest.
