Consumer Electronics

Consumer Electronics is a British power electronics and noise project, initially forged in the early 1980s by the enigmatic figure, Philip Best, when he was just 14 years old. Initially a solo endeavor, Best is most famous for his later work with the notorious industrial outfit, Whitehouse, where his aggressive, provocative aesthetic was honed. Over time, Consumer Electronics evolved into a formidable act known for delivering unflinchingly raw and visceral performances and recordings. The project is characterized by its confrontational lyrics, delivered via shouted vocals, while abrasive electronic textures and pulsating beats craft a backdrop that is both distressing and invigorating.

In recent years, Consumer Electronics has seen a resurgence of activity, emboldened by the addition of Sarah Froelich and famed noise musician Russell Haswell in various collaborations. Some of their most significant recent releases include 'Estuary English' (2014), notable for its incisive critique of contemporary British society set against a backdrop of ferocious electronic onslaughts, 'Repetition Reinforcement' (2015), an EP that pushes their signature blend of industrial noise and confrontational performance to the fore, 'Dollhouse Songs' (2015), which continues to delve into personal and political themes with a relentless intensity, and 'Airless Space' (2019), a further evolution of their seething electronic assaults coupled with Best's trademark snarled polemics. The project remains a formidable and influential voice within the realms of experimental and electronic music, commanding a cult following for their audacious output and uncompromising vision.
