Karen Cargill

Karen Cargill is a celebrated Scottish mezzo-soprano known for her rich, expressive voice and commanding stage presence. She has earned acclaim for her interpretations of Romantic and 20th-century repertoire, particularly in works by Mahler, Elgar, and Berlioz. A frequent soloist with major orchestras around the world, Cargill is a regular on the concert and operatic stage, performing at prestigious venues like the Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera.

She studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and later at the prestigious National Opera Studio. Over the years, Cargill has become especially known for her interpretations of Mahler's song cycles and Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, showcasing her ability to blend technical finesse with deep emotional nuance. Her recordings, including "Fleur de mon âme" and "Only a Singing Bird," have highlighted her versatility and artistry across a wide range of repertoire.
