United States Marine Band

The United States Marine Band, known as "The President's Own," is one of the most distinguished and oldest continuous active bands in the United States. It was established by an Act of Congress on July 11, 1798, and has performed at every U.S. Presidential Inauguration since Thomas Jefferson's in 1801. The band's primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Their storied history and high level of musical performance have made them an iconic symbol of national pride and the military tradition.

Under the baton of legendary director John Philip Sousa from 1880 to 1892, the band earned international acclaim and helped to shape the American wind band tradition. They continue to perform a wide repertoire, from classical to contemporary works, at the White House, national ceremonies, and public concerts. Over the years, the United States Marine Band has produced an array of recordings that showcase its versatility and skill, including albums dedicated to the music of Warren Benson, commemorations of band leaders like John R. Bourgeois, and numerous tributes to Sousa's incomparable march music, cementing their reputation not just as a military ensemble but as an indispensable part of the American cultural landscape.
