Johannes Moesus

Johannes Moesus is a highly respected German conductor known for his expertise in 18th- and 19th-century symphonies, especially those from the Classical and early Romantic periods. He studied with renowned teachers such as Karl Österreicher and Franco Ferrara in Hanover, Frankfurt, and Vienna and launched his career in Frankfurt and Stuttgart. Moesus is recognized for his sensitive conducting style and thoughtfully curated programs that blend works from different stylistic eras to offer vibrant, engaging concert experiences. Over decades, he has led many major orchestras across Europe, including the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Spanish National Orchestra, among others.

Beyond conducting, Moesus is passionate about rediscovering lesser-known composers, notably Antonio Rosetti. He founded and directs the Rosetti Festival in Ries, Bavaria, and served as president—and now honorary president—of the International Rosetti Society since 1997. He was principal conductor of the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra from 2012 to 2019 and now holds the title of Conductor Laureate with the ensemble. His recordings and live performances continue to highlight both familiar and neglected gems from the classical repertoire.
