GAC - Vozes na Luta was a collective of singers and musicians formed in May 1974, during the revolutionary period in Portugal following the Carnation Revolution. Founded by José Mário Branco, Fausto, Afonso Dias, and Tino Flores, the group aimed to create music that was both culturally rooted and politically engaged. GAC became known for blending traditional Portuguese music with protest and intervention-style songs. Their most notable tracks include "A Cantiga É Uma Arma," composed by José Mário Branco, which became an emblematic anthem of the era. The group was active until 1978, releasing albums like "A Cantiga É Uma Arma" (1975), "Pois Canté!!" (1976), "...E Vira Bom" (1977), and "...Ronda De Alegria!!" (1978).
Throughout their career, GAC performed hundreds of sessions across Portugal, influencing other groups like Brigada Victor Jara. The band's music reflects a strong commitment to the anti-fascist and revolutionary ideals prevalent during that time. Their legacy includes promoting socially conscious music and participating in significant cultural events, such as the RTP Song Festival in 1975. In 2010, their albums were remastered and re-released, ensuring their impact on Portuguese musical history remains relevant.
