Awa Sissao is celebrated as a dynamic Burkinabè singer rooted in Afrobeat and Mandingue musical traditions. Her artistry rose to national prominence with her debut album "Destin," which earned her the Best New Talent award at Burkina Faso’s prestigious Kundé d'Or ceremony and enabled her to tour internationally, including performances in Holland and Ivory Coast. Sissao is also known for her strong advocacy for women’s rights and empowerment, using her music to highlight issues like forced marriage, female excision, and the status of African women. Her second album "Benkandi"—meaning "cohesion" in local Dioula language—continues her commitment to social themes, blending influences from jazz, blues, and Afro rhythms.
