Margo Guryan
Margo Guryan was an American singer-songwriter and composer best known for her 1968 cult classic album Take a Picture. Though she began her career writing jazz songs for artists like Chris Connor and Harry Belafonte, Guryan eventually ventured into sunshine pop, crafting witty, melodic tunes with a subtle psychedelic flair. Her work as a songwriter also found success with recordings by artists such as Spanky and Our Gang and Glen Campbell.
Despite the critical praise for Take a Picture, Guryan chose not to pursue a traditional performing career, preferring to focus on writing and staying out of the public eye. Over the years, her music gained a devoted following among collectors and indie artists, leading to reissues of her album and previously unreleased demos. Her blend of refined jazz training and catchy 1960s pop sensibility has cemented her status as a hidden gem of the era.
