Gwen Verdon was an American dancer, singer, and actress who is best known for her work in musical theater. She was born in Culver City, California, in 1925 and began her career as a dancer in the chorus of the Broadway musical "Alive and Kicking" in 1950. She went on to star in a number of Broadway musicals, including "Can-Can" (1953), "Damn Yankees" (1955), and "Sweet Charity" (1966). She also appeared in several films, including "The Pajama Game" (1957) and "Damn Yankees" (1958). Verdon was married to choreographer and director Bob Fosse from 1960 until his death in 1987. She died in 2000 at the age of 75.
