Bill Sevesi was a pioneering figure in Pacific music, best known for his innovative work with the steel guitar. Born as Wilfred Jeffs in Tonga and raised in New Zealand, Sevesi became a beloved and influential musician across the South Pacific. He blended traditional Polynesian sounds with Western music styles, helping define the "South Seas" sound that gained popularity throughout the mid-20th century. With a career spanning over six decades, he recorded hundreds of songs and performed with a variety of artists, making him a central figure in promoting Pacific Island music globally.

Often referred to as a master of the Hawaiian steel guitar, Sevesi’s music transported listeners to sunny beaches and lush tropics, capturing the spirit of island life with warm melodies and smooth instrumentals. His albums like The Magic Steel Guitar and Pacific Paradise are celebrated for their joyful, laid-back vibes. In recognition of his significant contributions to music and culture, Bill Sevesi was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit.
