Orpheus in Red Velvet (ORV) is a solo project that originated in 1996. The artist behind ORV, known as mium, started this venture while working with a friend in a synthpop band. He found that some of his compositions didn't fit the style of the band, leading him to create ORV. The project's name is inspired by a song by Marc Almond, a significant influence on mium's work. ORV's music blends classic synthpop with various other electronic influences, as seen in tracks like "Not born human," which diverges from traditional synthpop.
Over the years, ORV has released several albums, including "The Tendency to Vanish" in 2011. This project has been a personal journey for mium, allowing him to explore his creativity without the constraints of a band dynamic. Despite the solo nature of the project, mium has expressed the possibility of expanding ORV for live performances.
