Tomáš Hanus is a renowned Czech conductor born in Brno in 1970. He gained prominence after participating in the Conductors' International Competition in Katowice in 1999. Hanus is celebrated for his work as the music director of the Welsh National Opera (WNO) since 2016, where he has conducted numerous critically acclaimed productions, including operas by Janáček, Rossini, and Prokofiev. His conducting career spans major European opera houses such as the Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, and Teatro alla Scala, as well as collaborations with prestigious orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic.
Hanus has also been involved in various concert appearances across the UK and has championed the works of Leoš Janáček through WNO's Janáček Cycle. His performances are noted for their orchestral precision and emotional depth.
