Barbaro Fines y su Mayimbe is a vibrant timba orchestra founded in 2010 by Cuban pianist and composer Bárbaro Fines Fortes, affectionately known as Barbarito. Originally from Havana and coming from a rich musical lineage—including being the nephew of Manolito Simonet and godson of Juan Formell—Barbarito moved to Lima, Peru, where he formed his band by blending Cuban and Peruvian musical talents. After four months of intensive rehearsals, the band launched with a fresh, original sound that quickly captivated audiences, especially in Peru where their debut album "De La Habana a Perú" became an instant hit. The band is celebrated for its electrifying performances, original compositions, and a unique fusion of songo son with contemporary Cuban timba, setting them apart in a scene often dominated by cover bands.
Barbaro Fines y su Mayimbe gained international acclaim with successful tours in Europe and the United States, packing venues such as Café Cocomo in San Francisco, and earning a devoted fan base with their dynamic rhythms and energetic live shows. The band’s lineup is a blend of Cuban and Peruvian musicians, including lead Cuban vocalist Rafael Labarrera Montero, adding to their cross-cultural appeal. Their music often carries a spiritual and cultural significance, with Mayimbe referring to a sacred vulture in the Palo Mayombe ritual, symbolizing a messenger of God—an inspiration reflected in album titles like "Mensajeros de Dios." Over the years, Barbaro Fines y su Mayimbe has established itself as a powerful force in Latin music, continuing to release lively tracks like "El Poder," "Me Da la Gana," and "Te Vi Nacer," which keep fans dancing worldwide.
