Gabin Dabiré was a talented musician from Burkina Faso, known for his versatility as a singer, guitarist, kora player, and composer. Born in Bobo-Dioulasso, he began his musical journey learning traditional music from Burkina Faso's great masters. In 1975, he moved to Italy, where he continued to explore various musical styles, blending traditional African sounds with contemporary and electronic elements. Dabiré co-founded the group Futuro Antico, which combined synthesized electronic music with traditional sounds from around the world. He also formed the group Yelbuna and collaborated with numerous musicians, including Manu Katché and Jeff Coffin. His music is characterized by its eclectic blend of African rhythms and global influences, as seen in albums like *Kontômè (Spirits)*, *Afriki Djamana: Music from Burkina Faso*, and his more recent release, *E-Wired Empathy*.
Throughout his career, Gabin Dabiré was dedicated to promoting African culture through music, cinema, and theater. He founded the Centro Diffusione Promozione Cultura in Milan to showcase African culture and organized numerous concerts. His collaborations spanned genres, from working with the Gregorian choir Santa Cecilia to experimenting with crossover music. Dabiré's legacy continues to inspire with his unique soundscapes and intercultural musical explorations. Sadly, he passed away on June 9, 2023, but his music remains a testament to his innovative spirit and cultural contributions.
