Madder Mortem

Madder Mortem is a Norwegian progressive metal band that has consistently forged a unique sound within the heavy music scene since its inception in the mid-1990s. The band was formed in 1993 under the name Mystery Tribe but adopted its current name in 1997. Central to Madder Mortem's distinctive style is the dynamic and emotive voice of lead vocalist Agnete M. Kirkevaag, which ranges from soulful melodies to raw, intense emotion. Her brother BP M. Kirkevaag, on guitar, along with guitarist Richard Wikstrand, bassist Tormod L. Moseng, and drummer Mads Solås, complete the lineup that has stably shaped the band's sonic explorations.

Over the years, Madder Mortem’s sound has continuously evolved, incorporating elements of doom, gothic, and avant-garde metal, allowing them to build a diverse and loyal fanbase. Their lyrical content often delves deep into personal and existential themes, delivered with a potent mix of aggression and melancholy. The band's discography showcases a dedication to musical innovation, as evidenced in their more recent releases such as “Red in Tooth and Claw” and “Marrow”, where the band further refines its signature blend of haunting melodies and unpredictable structural turns. They've celebrated their history by revisiting earlier work with re-recordings, such as the 20th-anniversary version of "Mercury" and the reworked "He Who Longed for the Stars" from 2019, which highlight the band's growth while staying true to their roots. Noted for their ethereal yet powerful presence, Madder Mortem continues to be a revered name among enthusiasts of the progressive metal genre.
