Marlene Dietrich was a German-American actress and singer. Born in Berlin in 1901, she began her career in silent films in the 1920s. Her breakthrough role came in the 1930 film "The Blue Angel," in which she played a cabaret singer. Dietrich went on to star in a number of Hollywood films, including "Morocco" (1930), "Shanghai Express" (1932), and "Destry Rides Again" (1939). She was known for her sultry voice, glamorous appearance, and androgynous style. Dietrich became a naturalized American citizen in 1939 and supported the Allied cause during World War II. She continued to perform and record music until her death in 1992.
