Nanako Sato

Nanako Sato is a Japanese musician known for her unique and influential style. Born in Tokyo, she began her musical journey while in college, where she met Motoharu Sano, who taught her how to write songs and poems. Her debut album, "Funny Walkin'," was released in June 1977, marking the beginning of her career as a singer-songwriter. Over the years, Nanako Sato has been involved in various musical projects, including collaborations with notable artists like Moonriders and Kazuhiko Kato. She also formed the band "SPY" in 1980. After a hiatus, she resumed her music career in the 1990s, releasing albums globally and gaining recognition for her distinctive whisper-singing voice, which is often associated with the "Shibuya kei" genre.

Nanako Sato's career has been marked by versatility and international recognition. She has released albums in several countries, including the UK and the US, and has worked with prominent producers like Mark Bingham. Her music has been released under various labels, including Bella Union, the label of Cocteau Twins.
