Derrick Carter

Derrick Carter is a legendary Chicago house DJ and producer who’s been shaping dancefloors since the late ‘80s. Born and raised in the Windy City, he’s a central figure in the second wave of Chicago house, blending soulful grooves, funky basslines, and a signature “boompty” swing that’s instantly recognizable. A master of both studio wizardry and turntable artistry, Carter co-founded the influential Classic Music Company label and helped define the raw, joyful sound of underground house. His marathon DJ sets – whether at intimate clubs or massive festivals – are celebrated for their seamless flow and infectious energy.

Beyond his solo work, Carter’s fingerprints are all over dance music: he’s remixed icons like Earth, Wind & Fire and Felix da Housecat, collaborated with fellow Chi-town heroes like Mark Farina (as the group Sound Patrol), and mentored countless rising artists. Recent tracks like *Jack (DC Jack Track)* and remixes for *Defected Presents House Masters* prove he’s still a studio powerhouse, while his *Derrick Carter Mixtape* showcases why he remains a global dancefloor ambassador. Whether tweaking vintage drum machines or dropping unreleased gems, Carter’s devotion to groove-first house music never wavers.
