Abigor is an Austrian black metal band whose origins date back to 1993, founded by Peter Kubik and Thomas Tannenberger. The band quickly became known for its melodic yet aggressive style, as well as its willingness to experiment within the black metal genre. It's important to note that Abigor has seen several lineup changes over the years, with many musicians contributing to the evolving soundscapes that define the band's work. Despite these changes, Kubik remains a core member, and Tannenberger contributed to much of Abigor's material until his departure in 1999.
Throughout their career, Abigor has maintained a prolific output, with a discography that showcases a commitment to both the traditional ferocity of black metal and the exploration of more avant-garde elements. Their releases such as "Supreme Immortal Art" and "Channeling the Quintessence of Satan" helped to cement their status as innovators within the black metal scene. Their later albums, including "Leytmotif Luzifer" and "Höllenzwang (Chronicles of Perdition)," demonstrate the band’s continued evolution, utilizing complex song structures and atmospheric elements without abandoning the raw intensity they are known for. The most recent album, "Totschläger: A Saintslayer's Songbook," released at the tail end of 2020, continues to explore Abigor's characteristic themes of darkness and mysticism, further affirming their place in the black metal pantheon.
