Walter Frye

Walter Frye was a seriously influential English composer of the 15th century! While details about his life are a bit scarce (we don't know exactly when or where he was born, for example), his music speaks volumes. He was a master of melody and his works, particularly his sacred pieces and chansons, were incredibly popular not just in England but also across continental Europe.

Frye's music is known for its beautiful, flowing lines and its use of consonance, which made it incredibly appealing to listeners of the time. Composers on the continent, especially in the Franco-Flemish school, were heavily influenced by his style. He's considered a key figure in the development of early Renaissance music, bridging the gap between the late medieval period and the more elaborate styles that would follow.
