Nikos Xilouris

Nikos Xilouris, also known as Nikos Xylouris, was a pivotal figure in Greek music and culture, renowned for his distinctive voice and talent in playing the Cretan lyra – a traditional Greek fiddle instrument. Born in the village of Anogeia on Crete island on July 7, 1936, Xilouris was fondly nicknamed "Archangel of Crete" due to his angelic voice and his ability to captivate audiences with his emotive performances. His music combined elements of the rich Greek folk tradition with modern poetry and themes, which endeared him not only to local aficionados but also to international listeners.

Throughout his career, which spanned over two decades until his untimely passing at the age of 43 in 1980, Nikos Xilouris released a multitude of works that showcased his deep connection to his Greek heritage and his skill as a musician.
