Sea Wolf is the brainchild of singer-songwriter and musician Alex Brown Church, who originally formed the indie folk band in 2003 in Los Angeles, California. Sea Wolf’s sound is noted for its melodic, folk-influenced indie rock, intertwined with Church’s introspective lyricism and emotive delivery. The name Sea Wolf comes from the title of a book by Jack London, reflecting Church's interest in literature and its influence on his songwriting.
The band’s debut EP, "Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low," was released in 2007, followed by their first full-length album, "Leaves in the River," later that same year. This set the stage for Sea Wolf’s evocative storytelling anchored by acoustic guitar and lush arrangements that would define their style. Over the ensuing years, Sea Wolf released several critically acclaimed albums—including "White Water, White Bloom" (2009), "Old World Romance" (2012), and "Song Spells, No.1: Cedarsmoke" (2014), a direct-to-fan album that showcased Church’s commitment to artistic independence and direct engagement with their audience. The March 2020 release of "Through A Dark Wood" presented Church’s pensive reflections on personal growth and change, further solidifying Sea Wolf’s place as a beloved project amongst fans of the indie folk-rock genre.
