The Fleshtones
The Fleshtones are a raucous New York City garage-rock institution that’s been cranking out party-ready anthems since 1976. Formed in Queens by singer Peter Zaremba and guitarist Keith Streng, this eternal underdog band blended punk energy, soul swagger, and psychedelic riffs into what they cheekily dubbed “Super Rock.” Known for their wild live shows (often involving crowd-surfing conga lines), they released their debut *Roman Gods* in 1980 and became cult heroes alongside acts like The Cramps and The Fuzztones. Despite label shakeups and shifting trends, they’ve never stopped touring or recording, cementing their status as America’s ultimate bar-band lifers.
Recent releases like *It’s Getting Late (…and More Songs About Werewolves)* and *Face of the Screaming Werewolf* prove they’re still obsessed with B-movie monsters, twangy surf riffs, and shout-along choruses. Tracks like *Mi Engañaste Bien* even sprinkle in Spanglish flair, showing their knack for retro-rock mischief hasn’t aged a day. Five decades in, The Fleshtones remain the kind of band that’ll make you spill your beer while dancing on a pool table—exactly as it should be.
