Afia Mala

Afia Mala, born Afiwavi Mawaulana Missohou, is a celebrated Togolese singer known as the "Princess of the Banks of the Mono River." Her musical journey began early, inspired by traditional singing lessons from the Habobo women and the legendary Bella Bellow, a major influence on many African artists of her generation. Afia Mala's career took off in 1974 when she performed to a large audience at the Palais des Congrès in Lomé, and she soon won the title of Best Togolese Singer of the Year. Despite a serious traffic accident that nearly ended her career, she made a triumphant return, with her 1984 hit "Ten Homte" earning the Radio France International "Discovery" prize.

Over the decades, Afia Mala has released multiple albums, singing in a rich variety of languages including Yoruba, Swahili, Lingala, French, and Spanish. She has not only gained acclaim as a powerful vocalist and African diva but also contributed to social causes through her foundation focused on protecting children. After a hiatus to focus on family and other ventures, she made a strong comeback with albums like *Afia à Cuba* and *IDENTITÉ*, continuing to captivate audiences with her elegant stage presence and deep cultural roots.
