Capella Thuringia

**Capella Thuringia** is the instrumental orchestra half of the dynamic duo Cantus Thuringia & Capella, based in Weimar, Germany, and totally dedicated to bringing 16th- to 18th-century music to life with historical performance vibes. Founded on October 29, 1999 (with the vocal side Cantus joining in 2000), they've been led since day one by Echo Prize winner Bernhard Klapprott, later teaming up with Christoph Dittmar in 2002, focusing on Thuringia's rich musical heritage through concerts, CDs, and cool projects like “Musikerbe Thüringen,” which digs into sounds from Reformation-era palaces, towns, and villages.

These folks play everything from sacred vocal works to chamber music and consort pieces strictly on period instruments, often pairing up for thematic programs at big festivals like Händel-Festspiele Halle, Bachfest Leipzig, and Thüringer Bachwochen. They're all about that Central German Baroque and Renaissance scene, reviving forgotten gems by composers like those in their recent releases—think Stölzel masses, Melchior Franck's sacred melodies, and Keiser cantatas—with a commitment to authentic sound and historical context that keeps audiences hooked.
