Zdeněk Chalabala was a prominent Czechoslovak conductor known for his work with orchestras in Prague, Ostrava, and Moscow. He was born in Uherské Hradiště and is noted for his contributions to Czech opera, often regarded as one of the greatest native conductors of Czech opera in the twentieth century. Chalabala also taught at the Brno Conservatory, where he mentored notable figures like Vitezslava Kapralova. As a composer, he wrote several orchestral and vocal works and orchestrated Mussorgsky's Nursery Songs. His recent releases include interpretations of works by Dvořák, Smetana, and Mussorgsky, showcasing his enduring legacy in classical music.
