Andrea Falconieri was a prominent Italian composer and lutenist of the early Baroque period, active during the late 16th and early 17th centuries. Born around 1585 or 1586 in Naples, he worked in various Italian cities and also spent time in Spain, absorbing a rich variety of musical influences. Falconieri is best known for his dances, canzonas, and instrumental pieces that showcase the vibrant, expressive style of the Italian Baroque. His music, including works from his collection Il Primo Libro di Canzone, Sinfonie, Fantasie, is still performed today by early music ensembles for its rhythmic vitality and melodic charm.
Later in life, Falconieri returned to Naples, where he became the maestro di cappella (music director) at the royal chapel—a prestigious position that reflected his musical stature. His compositions remain a key part of the lute and early Baroque instrumental repertoire.
