Coleman Hawkins Quintet was a jazz group led by saxophonist Coleman Hawkins. The group was formed in 1944 and recorded several albums for the Savoy label. The quintet's music was characterized by Hawkins's powerful and swinging tenor saxophone playing, as well as the interplay between the other members of the group, which included pianist Bud Powell, bassist Oscar Pettiford, drummer Max Roach, and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie. The Coleman Hawkins Quintet was one of the most important jazz groups of the 1940s, and their music continues to be enjoyed by jazz fans today.
