Delfí Abella

Delfí Abella i Gibert was a multifaceted figure in Catalan culture, known as a psychiatrist, essayist, and singer-songwriter. Born on February 2, 1925, in Barcelona, he was a key figure in the **Nova Cançó** movement, a cultural and musical phenomenon that emerged in Catalonia during the 1960s. As a member of the influential group **Els Setze Jutges**, Abella contributed to the revival of Catalan language and culture through music, often drawing inspiration from French chanson singers like Georges Brassens and Barbara. His style was characterized by witty and satirical lyrics, as seen in his popular song "Cap al futbol," which humorously critiques the world of football.

Abella's musical career included the release of several EPs, and his adaptations of French songs were performed by notable artists such as Maria del Mar Bonet and Joan Manuel Serrat. Beyond his musical endeavors, Abella was a respected psychiatrist, serving as the head of the Department of Psychiatry at the Hospital de Santa Creu i Sant Pau and as a professor of psychiatry at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He passed away on February 1, 2007, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence Catalan music and culture.
