Ingo Metzmacher is a German conductor known for his adventurous programming and commitment to contemporary music. Born in 1957, he studied conducting in Hamburg and made his debut with the Hamburg State Opera in 1985. Metzmacher has since led major orchestras worldwide, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He is particularly renowned for his interpretations of Mahler, Strauss, and contemporary composers such as Ligeti and Stockhausen.
