The Flowers are a Scottish post-punk band that emerged from the vibrant Edinburgh music scene in 1978. Formed after the split of a local band called The Dirty Reds, The Flowers became known for their sharp, feminist lyrics and distinctive astringent sound. Their early lineup included Hilary Morrison (vocals), Andy Copland (guitar), Fraser Sutherland (bass), and Simon Best (drums). The band was closely linked with influential independent labels Fast Product and Pop:Aural, and they shared stages with notable acts like Human League, The Mekons, The Beat, and OMD. They also played the 1980 Futurama Festival in Leeds alongside headliners such as Siouxsie and the Banshees. Although active only until 1980, The Flowers made a lasting impression on the post-punk scene and were featured in the documentary *Big Gold Dream* highlighting Edinburgh’s music movement. After the band's breakup, Hilary Morrison continued her musical journey with other local post-punk groups including Fire Engines and Heartbeats before moving into theatre and community education.
