The Tansman Cello Quartet is a unique ensemble formed in 2010 during the Violoncelles en Folie Festival in the Hautes-Alpes. The quartet consists of four cellists from different countries: Marinela Doko from Albania, Fernando Lima de Albuquerque from Brazil, and Didier Poskin and Karel Steylaerts from Belgium. Their name pays homage to Polish composer Alexandre Tansman, known for his prolific work in classical music. The quartet has performed in various festivals and venues across France and Belgium, showcasing a diverse repertoire that spans from Baroque to contemporary music. Notably, they released their first album, "Légende," in 2015, which features Alexandr Tansman's "Two Movements for Four Cellos," among other compositions.
In recent years, the Tansman Cello Quartet has continued to embrace a wide range of musical styles, with releases such as "Poesia" and "La Poésia" showcasing their versatility. Their music often highlights the cello's expressive qualities, whether in intimate settings or larger orchestral arrangements. The quartet's performances have been well-received, with residencies at festivals like Violoncelles en Folie, where they share their passion for the cello with audiences worldwide.
