Samina Kanwal

Samina Kanwal is a renowned Sindhi folk singer known for her contributions to folk and classical music. Born in Kandiaro, a town in Noshero Feroze district, she is the daughter of Zeb-un-Nissa, a prominent Sindhi folk singer from the 1960s and 1970s. Samina rose to fame with traditional wedding songs like "Sahera" and "Ladda." She has performed for various Sindhi TV channels, Radio Pakistan, and the Sindhi film industry, singing in both Sindhi and Balochi languages. Her musical legacy includes duets with notable artists such as Sajjad Yousif and Ustad Barkat Faqeer. Samina has received several awards for her services, including the Shah Latif Award and Lal Shahbaz Award.

Samina's musical journey was influenced by her family's rich cultural heritage. Her grandmother, Mai Hurmat, was also a folk singer, and Samina was trained by Ustad Muhammad Jumman. Recently, she has been facing health challenges, diagnosed with throat cancer, which has forced her to take a break from singing and public appearances. Despite this, her contributions to Sindhi music remain celebrated, and she is regarded as a cultural asset of Sindh.
