Lizard Music, a vibrant rock quartet hailing from New Jersey, first took shape in 1989 when high school friends Mikael Jorgensen and Erik Paparozzi started experimenting with songwriting and recording on a four-track cassette machine. Their eclectic sound, drawing inspiration from iconic bands like The Beatles and Captain Beefheart, quickly evolved as they added members Chris Apple and Craig Smith. With a distinct blend of harmony-driven, surreal pop, Lizard Music carved out a niche during an era dominated by grunge, releasing two self-released EPs and signing to World Domination Records in the early '90s. Their energetic performances led to opening slots for notable acts like Pere Ubu and Yo La Tengo.
After a hiatus in 1997, the band members pursued individual paths—Jorgensen joined Wilco, while Paparozzi contributed to various projects, including Cat Power and RuPaul’s Drag Race. In 2020, Lizard Music reunited during the pandemic, channeling their creativity into their first new music in over 25 years, culminating in the album *Arizone!*, which celebrates their comeback. Their enduring camaraderie and innovative spirit ensure that Lizard Music remains a beloved part of the indie rock landscape.
