Tugan Sokhiev
Tugan Sokhiev is a renowned conductor from Russia, widely recognized for his dynamic interpretations and deep affinity with Russian and European orchestral repertoire. Born in Vladikavkaz, North Ossetia, Sokhiev gained early international attention when he was appointed Music Director of the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in 2008, a position he held for many years, earning acclaim for elevating the ensemble’s international profile. His charismatic conducting style and affinity for composers like Prokofiev, Shostakovich, and Tchaikovsky have made him a favorite on concert stages around the world.
Sokhiev has also served as the Music Director of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and was formerly the principal conductor of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. Over the years, he has appeared with top-tier orchestras, including the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic. His recordings demonstrate a strong command of 19th- and 20th-century symphonic works, revered for their intensity, precision, and emotional depth.
