Belly is a Canadian alternative rock band formed in 1991 in Boston, Massachusetts, though the members of the band have been active in various projects before and after this period. The band originally consisted of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Tanya Donelly, bass guitarist Gail Greenwood, and drummer Chris Gorman. Their initial success was marked by their 1993 debut album, "Star," which brought them international recognition due to the hit singles 'Feed the Tree' and 'Gepetto'. The album's success led to Grammy nominations and established Belly as a force in the indie rock scene of the early 90s.
Following "Star", Belly released their second album, "King," in 1995. "King" built upon their established sound and saw the band continue to enjoy critical and commercial success. However, internal tensions and the relentless pace of touring and promotion took a toll on the band, leading to their breakup in 1996. Belly would take a longstanding hiatus until their eventual reunion in 2016. Their long-awaited third album "Dove" was released in 2018, followed by singles such as "Bees" that showcased the band's enduring ability to craft melodic and emotionally resonant songs. With their return, Belly has been warmly received by a generation of fans who have welcomed their rich legacy and new material alike.
